Alley Cat Allies is working in communities to champion low-cost spay and neuter policies and programs, as well as lifesaving Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and Shelter-Neuter-Return (SNR). Once viewed as radical new concepts, these humane cat protocols are now mainstream.

TheraPets

Caitlin McAuliffe—TheraPets Coordinator, Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Inc. Des Moines, IA

The ARL TheraPets program certifies a pet and their handler, as a team. Then they visit nursing homes, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, hospice facilities, and other such residences to make a difference in the lives of those being cared for.

The ARL’s new Clowder House cat facility is designed to help lessen stress and allow staff and volunteers to help build trust and continue
to interact and evaluate each cat on an individual basis until they are ready for adoption.
